Washington Sundar is the talk of the town following his sensational IPL debut. Yet his accomplishments must be recognised! One of the most promising players to have appeared for the India National Cricket Team in recent years, his future appears to be bright.
Washington has progressively risen through the ranks, from his local debut to his international debut and, of course, the spectacular IPL achievement.
religion of Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar was born on October 5, 1999, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to a Tamil Hindu family. His father, M. Sundar, named him after a guy named P.D. Washington, who had financed the older Sundar’s cricket love. Shailaja Sundar, his sister, is also a professional cricketer. He began playing cricket when he was four or five years old. He did his primary and secondary schooling at St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School.
Early Years
Washington was just four years old the first time he played cricket! He was in upper kindergarten at the time and liked to play with his father. Seeing his father train and play inspired him much throughout those formative years. It’s hardly unexpected that he found a passion at such a young age. For Washington, cricket is everything. He is unconcerned about the stress or the tight schedules since he is doing what he enjoys.
At the same time, Washington doesn’t worry over his game or technique all the time; he understands how to relax away from the field. He receives his training at the MRF Pace Academy. He spends the most of his day exercising and working out in the gym.
Washington Sundar has had a stellar career
Washington made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 2016-17 season. He appeared in 12 matches for Tamil Nadu, scoring 532 runs at an average of 31.29. Sundar also grabbed 300 wickets at a 26.93 average. He scored his first first-class century against Tripura in October 2017 during the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy.
International Career Opportunities
He was called up to the India U-19 squad in 2016. He soon received his national call. On December 13, 2017, Washington made his One-Day International debut against Sri Lanka. Apart from grabbing a catch, the kid had an interesting inning, recording numbers of 1/65. In the same tour, he made his T20 debut on December 24, 2017.
Washington’s on-field theatrics have also impressed the renowned Australian cricketer Brett Lee. “I am a great admirer of Washington Sundar,” the child told Rediff.com. He’s an intriguing player who can do a lot with the bat and the ball. He is tall, confident, and extremely talented on the field. Certainly a player to watch in the future.” It is really outstanding and must have greatly inspired the child.
