On Monday, the 29-year-old Vidarbha bowler Akshay Karnewar accomplished a unique record in history of T20 cricket. During the match between Vidarbha and Manipur in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021, Akshay Karnewar becomes the only ever, bowler in T20 cricket to give zero runs in his 4 overs spell (24 balls). So, he is the first bowler to bowl four overs with four maidens. He produced the best figure of 4-4-0-2 and broke the record of Pakistan bowler Mohammad Irfan.

 

Akshay’s magical spell makes his team Vidarbha qualify for the Knockout stage on the ongoing tournament of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. As Vidarbha batted first and scored 222 runs in 20 overs. The score in include beautiful unbeaten knocks by Jitesh Sharma (71) and Apoorv Wankhede (49) runs.

 

While Manipur could only manage to score 55 runs as the whole team got out in just 16.3 overs. Therefore, Vidarbha wins the match with 167 runs and register the second biggest win in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in terms of margin. But Akshay’s magician spell of 24 dot balls with two wickets in two deliveries took all the limelight.

 

After that historic record on the following day, he again displays magnifying performance by taking a hat trick against Sikkim. He took wickets of Kranthi Kumar, Ajit Karthik and Ashish Thapa.

 

Karnewar’s usually an off-spinner and right-handed batsman. But after his junior coach Balu Navghare advice he started bowling left spin and took it seriously. So, all the hard works in developing the skill payoffs with his achievement in the last Monday match at the ACA Stadium.
