Shreyas Iyer, the Delhi Capitals star mark his arrival on test cricket with a century on his Test debut. The 26 years old Indian batsman made his test debut on Friday. After he was given his maiden test cap by Sunil Gavaskar during the first day of the Kanpur test India vs New Zealand. While on day 1 Shreyas Iyer started his test career with style as at the end of the day he scores 75 runs remains not out. On the 2nd day of the Kanpur Shreyas Iyer scores his first maiden test century. And becomes the 16th Indian player to score a century on his test debut.

 

He also becomes the 10th Indian player to do so at home. After achieving the milestone he joins with some of the iconic cricketers. Like Sourav Ganguly, Virender Shewag, Rohit Sharma, Prithvi Shaw, etc. Prithvi Shaw is the last Indian batsman to achieve this mark and the youngest one on the list before Shreyas Iyer. Shaw scores his maiden test century on his debut in 2018 against West Indies by scoring 134 runs.

Shreyas Iyer made his international debut in two other formats T20 and ODI in 2017. But struggle to keep him in the playing xi. Therefore after a wait of 4 years, he got his test cap. During the match, Iyer plays an incredible knock he keeps on hitting a delightful cover drive after Jadeja got out on 50 that helps him to enter the 90s score. Therefore he scores his maiden test century with two runs after tapping the ball on the offside.

Moreover, Shreyas Iyer has an outstanding career in first-class cricket. As the Mumbai boy has 4592 runs in his name with a batting average of 52.18 which include 12 hundred and 23 fifties. Apart from his domestic circuit, he also has good numbers in the Indian Premier League. But in the last season of IPL 2020, he was stuck with an injury that keep him outside of the Indian 15 men squad for the T20 World Cup although he was a reserve player.

 

Shreyas Iyer makes his return to the main squad in three T20I matches against New Zealand which is follow by two-test series. After registering his iconic Test century now it will be interesting to see how would Iyer will make his way in the absence of Virat Kohli. As the Indian skipper will join the squad in the 2nd test at Mumbai.
