Rajasthan Royals Spent 13crore on one player Joe Root IPL

With only 16 players on the roster and four overseas players, the Royals club entered the auction with INR 13.2 crore in their bank account. To complete the team configuration, they required at least two more players to reach the minimum squad size requirement of 18. And ideally four more international players. They spent up to INR 13 crore to acquire Harry Brook, one player.

The fact that they did not land the English batter is a separate story. But if SunRisers had given up at that point, the Jaipur-based team would have had just INR 20 lakh left. Over to spend on the 18th player. With only five international players on their roster for the 2023 IPL and no money in the bank. They could have been able to add one uncapped Indian player with the remaining amount to make up the numbers.

But the Royals insisted they were in charge at all times. Romi Bhinder, the manager of Rajasthan Royals’ high-performance facility in Jaipur, said, “We actually went to Kochi with the aim of purchasing just one player since we were aware of our limitations. We knew that if Brook joined us, we would only have five international players “Bhinder, who was seated at the auction table, explained their plan to Cricbuzz.

The Royals Acquired Top Players

The Royals later acquired nine players, including four foreign players. Including Donovan Ferreira (INR 1 crore), Adam Zampa (INR 1.5 crore), Joe Root (INR 5.75 crore), and Jason Holder (INR 5.75 crore) (INR 50 lakh). The remaining five players were KM Asif ($30k), PA Abdul ($20k), Akash Vashisht ($20k), Kunal Rathore ($20k), and Murugan Ashwin ($20k) (INR20 lakh). And once everything was said and done, they still had Rs 3.35 crore in their bank account.
