Sir Nicholas Alexander Faldo was born in Welwyn Garden City, England, on July 18, 1957, as the only child of Joyce and George Faldo. Nick began playing golf as a teenager after being inspired by watching Jack Nicklaus play in the 1971 Masters. Nick competed in the 1974 English Amateur at Woodhall Spa just three years after first picking up a club. The following year, he won both the English Amateur and the British Youths Open Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham. All of these victories eventually led to his professional debut in 1976.
