The Kolkata Knight Riders (commonly known as KKR) are an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise headquartered mostly in Kolkata. KKR is based in Kolkata’s famed Eden Gardens. The BCCI established it in 2007 when Shah Rukh Khan of Red Chillies Entertainment purchased a controlling share and became the face of the KKR brand.
THE STRUCTURE OF OWNERSHIP
The squad is Kkr owner by a collaboration between India’s most famous Bollywood celebrity, Shahrukh Khan (Red Chillies Entertainment), and Indian actress Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta from the Mehta Group, who control 55% and 45% of the stage, respectively. However, the team is led by Shah Rukh Khan, with Juhi and Jay in charge of management and auction operations. According to sources, KKR’s net worth is believed to be approximately 629 crores.
THE HISTORY OF KKR
KKR failed to catch the spotlight in the first two seasons under the guidance of Kolkata’s own Saurav Ganguly. After releasing Sourav Ganguly in 2010, KKR received a lot of flak from their home supporters. KKR, on the other hand, rose to prominence under the guidance of experienced batsman Gautam Gambhir. In 2011, Gambhir helped KKR qualify for the playoffs for the first time. It was under his guidance that they won the IPL title in 2012 and 2014. Kolkata was a formidable power during its prime. Nevertheless, they have struggled to duplicate their earlier triumphs in recent years.
OTHER BUSINESS ENDEAVORS
Kkr owner Shah Rukh Khan increased his cricketing business activities in 2015 when he purchased a controlling stake in the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel. Trinidad & Tobago, once one of six teams in the Caribbean Premier League, was renamed Trinbago Knight Riders. However, TKR remains a part of the CPL, with prominent stars like Pollard, Bravo, Narine, and others attached to them.
Shreyas Iyer will be the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023.
Chandrakant Pandit is the head coach.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment (55%) and Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta’s Mehta Group (45%) are the owners.
