Kiran Navgire

Kiran Prabhu Navgire (born May 1995 in Solapur, Maharashtra) is an Indian cricketer. She is presently a member of the Nagaland women’s squad. She established the record for the highest individual score in the Women’s Senior T20 Trophy in 2022, scoring an unbeaten 162 for Nagaland against Arunachal Pradesh.

Family and Childhood

Kiran Navgire is the farmer’s and housewife’s daughter. Her brothers are two. She began her sporting career before going on to become a cricketer. She was born in 1995, is 26 years old, and is 5 feet 6 inches tall.

During her undergraduate studies at Savitribai Phule Pune University, she began playing cricket. From 2013-14 to 2015-16, she played for the university cricket team without any formal training. She has also participated in the javelin throw, shot put, and 100 metres for Pune University. Her formal education began at the Azam Campus in Pune, where she studied physical education for two years.

Her Career

She made her Senior Women’s One Day League debut for Maharashtra in 2018-19. She chose to play for Nagaland as a guest player in the 2021-22 Women’s Senior T20 Tournament after not receiving enough opportunity in the Maharashtra team.

On 15 April 2022, she became the first Indian male or female to score 150+ runs in a Twenty20 innings while playing for Nagaland against Arunachal Pradesh at Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium.

In preparation for the 2022 Women’s T20 Challenge, she was nominated to the Velocity squad.

Navgire stepped out to bat after Shafali Varma was removed, and Velocity were reduced to 50/2 in the fifth over. She got off to a fast start, hitting a slog-sweep over long-on for a six against Salma Khatun. She hit a boundary and another six in the same over, pushing her side to 68 for 2 on the powerplay. The Maharashtra batsman eventually reached the half-century mark after only 25 balls.
