JSCA International Cricket Stadium
Ranchi is home to the JSCA International Stadium Complex, originally the Jharkhand States Cricket Association International Cricket Stadium. On January 19, 2013, India and England played their first one-day international at the venue. Since then, this venue has hosted two additional ODI matches. Six IPL games have also been held at the stadium.
It’s a well-thought-out stadium. Membrane roofing technology has been utilised to shield fans from the hot sun. Long shadows are a constant issue when matches played in India throughout the winter, resulting in the cancellation of the day’s play. That issue was taken into consideration when the JSCA International Stadium Complex was built.
The stadium also features a three-pitch indoor cricket centre. Being only a 10-minute taxi ride from the airport is one of the stadium’s intriguing features. Additionally, four-lane highways offer adequate connection. The 17th-century Jagannath Temple, the Heavy Engineering Corporation Plant, and the Hatia Dam are all located close to the stadium.
JSCA International Cricket History
The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) won the first innings of its 1937 Ranji Trophy match even against Cricket Association of Assam and Bengal in Calcutta. Even though Bihar lost the game to a much better team, the achievement is still quite commendable.
The inaugural Ranji Trophy game was played in Jamshedpur in 1939–1940 against with the Cricket Association of Bengal at Keenan Stadium. The first victory for Bihar came on January 23, 1948, when it defeated Delhi and District Cricket Association at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur. To claim victory, Delhi and District Association needed to amass 32 runs with 8 wickets still in play and one full day remaining. However, due to the wonderful inconsistencies of cricket, 8 wickets fell for 17 runs in less than an hour! Bihar had a solid possibility of winning the game if it had established a lead during the first half of the 1959–60 season after defeating Bengal to win the East Zone champion and go to the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Mysore.
Pitch Conditions
Because of the size of the stadium, spinners frequently participate at the field. The spinners can grip and turn on the track as well. With his left-arm spin, Chennai Super Kings’ Ravindra Jadeja has undoubtedly benefited from the favourable circumstances. He got eight wickets there in just four games during the 2014 IPL. Most of the time, a score of 150 can be considered competitive at the pitch.
Stadium Seating capacity and Length of Boundary
The JSCA Stadium in Ranchi, which has a capacity of 50,000, is expected to be packed for the opening T20I game. This field last hosted a T20I match in 2021.
